LISA: There is a five letter word that can add years to your life. It is water. As a matter of fact, I just finished my glass of water and I had many others earlier. It's so important, since we are 70% water. We have got the fantastic Dr. Patricia Bragg. She is a legend and she joins us now.
Hi, Patricia. So glad you're here.
PATRICIA: Oh, hello there.
LISA: It’s so good to have you on.
PATRICIA: Thank you.
LISA: That's right. Everywhere you go you bring health and happiness.
PATRICIA: Thank you.
LISA: And, you've been doing it for how long now?
PATRICIA: Well, my dear. Let's see. I'm in my 8th decade and I've been at it since, I guess, almost 5 years old.
PATRICIA: Yes. I was born a little teacher.
ANDREA: So, tell us a little bit about your story.
PATRICIA: Well, my dad, Paul Bragg, was the originator of health food stores in 1912 and then he became the father of the heath movement throughout America. He started the first herbal teas. He put out the first vitamins, the first health cosmetics without all the fillers and dangerous things. And, guess what? He, then, went across America, the Bragg Health Crusade, and said, "Who wants to open the first health food store in Pennsylvania?" and that was, guess who it was? It was little mama papa, a yogurt shop called the Lackzoom and now, that's GNC. Guess what? They're in every city in America.
Then, he went all over America and I did, also, with my father when I got old enough and got all my education and degrees, then I went. We traveled 8 months every year, health crusading across America and the world. I loved every minute of it.
LISA: That's so awesome.
ANDREA: So, Patricia, then, what would you say—I know this is off topic with what we were going to talk about today, but I just find your story so interesting. What would you say would be your top 3 secrets to really maintaining a healthy lifestyle?
PATRICIA: Well, let's see. You have 640 muscles. If you don't use them, you lose them. They lose their tone, their ability to keep active and going. You need to exercise; good posture; don't sit with your legs crossed; lift your chest up; don't wear wired bras, gals. It cuts off the circulation.
LISA: Good one.
PATRICIA: There's a book called Dressed to Kill about wired bras and breast cancer. It's a proven fact. It cuts of the circulation. Deep breathing is important. I have Katy Perry, the Beach Boys, Carrie Underwood. I have Metropolitan Opera singers. Oh, deep breathing is so important. And, you are what you think with your computer. Oh, your brain. Happy, healthy thoughts; productive thoughts. You are what you think; what you do. It's so important. This is the Bragg Healthy Lifestyle: you are what you eat; what you drink; what you breathe; what you say; what you do. It's as simple as this: what you eat and drink today walks and talks tomorrow. So, when you put it in your mouth, put it to the test. Health or sickness or obesity or diabetes. Think about it. We all should be our own health captains.
ANDREA: Absolutely. Those are very wise words. You know what I love about you, Patricia, and your company. I've been in the natural health industry for 15 years. I just saw you, actually. I didn't go over and say hello, but I saw you at Expo West. You know, I saw you at a distance and now, next time I see you, I will go over and say hello and I love that you are so ahead of your time in terms of the products that you come out with. The apple cider vinegar, obviously, the Bragg's and now, we want to talk about dehydration and staying hydrated and the importance. I just want to give you kudos and your dad, obviously, who started it all. I just love what you guys are doing.
PATRICIA: Well, thank you. Thank you. Yes, I tell you what. Your health is your wealth. I have many billionaires, many billionaires, that follow us. Donald Trump and on and on. I kept J. C. Penney going to almost 100. Conrad Hilton. Dr. Scholls, the foot doctor. Oh my gosh, in their later years, they realize their health is their wealth. That's what I want the mothers of America to know. That they should be the captains of their childrens' health and guide them into being healthy their whole lives.
Now, this is important: that they teach their children early by living examples of exercise, keeping fit, healthy, no obesity, no diabetes, no high blood pressure—things that are striking so many Americans today because of their unhealthy lifestyle. You see?
LISA: Oh, yes. Definitely. Where does water play in this equation?
PATRICIA: Oh my gosh. Right this minute, I'm 70% water. What do you think of that? You know, you see a dried prune? You know, it gets all wrinkled. The beautiful plum—plum prune—is full of water and as it dries, they dry it in the sun and it's dried and all wrinkled. Well, you see my face, it's like a polished apple because, you see, I have 8 glasses of water a day. Children, you have to be sure that they're getting ample water. I believe you had on there, Willard's Water. Wonderful water.
PATRICIA: And, purified water. No fluoridation or toxins. We wrote the book, Water: The Shocking Truth That Can Save Your Life.
