Ask Dr. Mike: Multivitamins, Organic Food, Ebola & Supplements

Do you have a health and wellness question that you simply can't find an answer to? Dr. Mike is encouraging you to send in any health question you have so he can help provide in-depth answers.

This week on Healthy Talk, Dr. Mike was asked:

1. Why do I need supplements?

It can be hard to eat healthy and get all the right vitamins and minerals you need into your diet. If you are eating healthy most of the time, pat yourself on the back! Unfortunately, food is just not enough anymore.

There are a lot of preservatives, artificial flavors, GMOs, antibiotics, and hormones found in many of today's foods.

Also, the soil where your food grows is lacking in many nutrients, which in turn causes the food itself to lack proper nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

By taking a supplement, you reduce your own risk of becoming vitamin deficient while also making sure you are getting enough essential vitamins and minerals.

2. Is organic food really better?

In regards to nutrients, organic foods still have the risk of containing toxins. They are sharing the same soil that is lacking nutrients and being exposed to pesticides and other chemicals. However, organic produce does contain more essential minerals and vitamins than non-organic produce.

3. Are there any natural cures to Ebola?

Ebola is an infectious and potentially fatal disease that causes fever, severe bleeding, sore throat and muscle weakness. The majority of the cases are found in parts of Africa, although a few cases have been discovered in the U.S.

Dr. Mike has read studies which suggest silver enamel particles might be able to interfere with the replication of the virus. But, keep in mind, he's not suggesting this is a substantiating ways to treat Ebola.

One thing you can be doing to help protect against any virus is to boost your immune system by supplementing with lactoflorene, vitamin C, vitamin D3 and Selenium.

4. Should I take a multivitamin without iron?

If you're not anemic and don't suffer from iron loss, then you do not need to take a multivitamin that includes iron.

If you have a health question or concern, Dr. Mike encourages you to write him so he can help give you support and helpful advice.
