What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?
Starting October 1st, 2013, millions of Americans who lack health insurance or want to explore other options can sign up to obtain coverage through the online Health Insurance Marketplace, which is established as part of the Affordable Care Act. The Marketplace, sometimes referred to as "exchanges," is a new way to find health coverage that is best suitable for you.

Either your state or federal government runs the Marketplace. With your Marketplace application, you can enroll, apply for subsidies to lower your premiums, see if your income and household size can lower your costs and compare the coverage options in your area. It's a one-stop shop... comparable to shopping online for the best-priced airline ticket or hotel room, but more complex.

Most Americans will be eligible to use the Marketplace.

Coverage starts as soon as January 1, 2014 and the open enrollment ends March 31, 2014; so it is important to learn about your options as soon as possible.

Marianne Eterno, Assistant Vice President of Government Relations for Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company, guides you through the important details of the Marketplace, from applying to what plans are covered.
