Carol Alt Shares Her Fave Beauty & Household Products
Choosing chemically-free products can be a real challenge, especially when manufacturers mix and mesh words on the labels of their products, so that you don't really know what you're getting.

Even someone as savvy as Carol Alt has trouble finding products that are earth-friendly and body-friendly.

But, after years of her own research, she's found that there are actually a great many foods (yes, foods) that you can use as skincare products, shampoos, conditioners, rinses, etc.

Carol's absolute favorite is olive oil, which acts as a great moisturizer. In fact, she believes it works better than some of the expensive products she's used before.

Olive oil can also be used as a hair mask, when mixed with avocado, eggs and rosemary oil. These elements, when mixed together, can help your hair grow faster and stronger.

Cucumbers, while they don't have much of an effect on puffy eyes, are quite cooling. A cucumber is naturally cooler than room temperature and can have a hydrating sensation. But, it's important to moisturize after, or you've lost all those hydrating benefits.

One product that you simply cannot do without is toothpaste... but many of the traditional toothpastes on the market have harsh (and potentially dangerous) ingredients.

You can make your own safe toothpaste, however, by mixing hydrogen peroxide, non-aluminum baking soda and even some essential oils that specifically heal your gums. Once in awhile you can also mix in a bit of lemon juice to help whiten your teeth. You don't want to do that every day, as lemon juice is quite acidic and can erode your teeth enamel.

Coconut oil is another great moisturizer, but can also be used for oil pulling in order to remove unhealthy bacteria from your mouth and improve your dental hygiene.

Vinegar (specifically apple cider vinegar) isn't something you might consider putting in your hair, but it can be wonderful for moisturizing and detangling.

And, don't forget a water filter for your shower head. Unfiltered water can make your hair dry and brittle and cause residue to collect on your scalp.

As far as home products, lemons and oranges can be effective cleaning products for around the home, as can vinegar.

Listen in as Carol shares more tips for these earth-friendly, body-friendly products, as well as why it's so important to use as many chemical-free products as possible.
