Duration: 10
Host: Andrea Donsky, RHN and Lisa Davis, MPH
Guest Bio: Shazi Visram
Shazi VisramConsidered by President Obama as “not only an outstanding businesswoman, but also a leader that all of us can emulate,” Shazi Visram is a daughter of immigrants who took life-changing risks in order to create a better world for their children. For as long as she can remember, she has wanted to be a part of something bigger than herself. Shazi has always sought to create abundance and pay it forward—the question was: how?

Her journey took her to Columbia Business School, where she had an “Aha!" moment while listening with a compassionate ear to a friend’s anguish about the difficulty of finding the time to make her own baby food, and the lack of healthy options in the traditional baby food aisle. In that moment in 2003, Happy Family was born. Shazi made it her mission to create a progressive business that could positively impact the health of our children while giving back to those in need and also support sustainable agriculture.

There’s an increasing demand from parents wanting to know more about the ingredients in the foods they feed their babies and the level of transparency companies are sharing about these products.

Happy Family, one of the largest and fastest growing organic food brands to offer a comprehensive line of nutritious foods for babies, toddlers, kids and their mothers, has taken the lead in answering the call for more transparency. The company’s most recent product line, Clearly Crafted, is the first clear baby food pouch that allows you to see exactly what’s inside.

Clearly Crafted pouches also list the exact recipe, including specific ingredient amounts, directly on the back of the pouch, and include a link to HappyFarms.com, where parents can learn more about the farms the brand partners with to supply its ingredients.

Founder/CEO Shazi Visram’s goal is to make delicious and nutritious options, which is especially helpful if you have a picky eater in your household.

Listen in as Visram discusses more about what inspired her to start Happy Family, some of the company’s most popular products, and the importance of introducing new foods and flavor profiles to children at an early age in order to encourage healthy eating habits that will last into adulthood.
