Jonny Bowden Jonny Bowden, PhD, CNS, (aka “The Nutrition Myth Buster”) is a nationally known expert on weight loss, nutrition and health. He is a board-certified nutritionist with a master’s degree in psychology and the author of fourteen books on health, healing, food and longevity including three best-sellers, The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth, Living Low Carb and The Great cholesterol Myth (co-authored with Stephen Sinatra, MD).

A frequent guest on television and radio, he has appeared on Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS as an expert on nutrition, weight loss, and  longevity. He is a past member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Men’s Health magazine, is the Nutrition Editor for Pilates Style, and is a regular contributor to AOL, Vanity Fair OnlineClean Eating Magazine, and Better Nutrition.

Americans are regularly told what’s good and what’s bad for the heart.

In an effort to be healthy, some of the hearsay is incorporated into daily routine. Some of the things that are “good for your heart” are little more than folklore.

Here are ten myths on heart health that you may have accepted as fact:

  1. Cholesterol is bad for your heart. Saturated fat clogs your arteries.
  2. Red wine is better for your heart than any other form of alcohol.
  3. Statins are good for everyone who has a heart issue.
  4. Dark chocolate is a heart-healthy food.
  5. Sex can be bad for your heart.
  6. Supplements that say they’re good for your heart may not be.
  7. An aspirin a day keeps heart attacks away.
  8. Stress doesn't affect your heart health.
  9. Calcium testing can prevent heart disease.
  10. Women don’t have chest pains during heart attacks.
