About Dr. Mike

Bio: Dr. Mike is America’s Culinary Interventionalist. As a cardiologist and a chef, Dr. Mike has combined his culinary talents with cutting-edge medical expertise and insight. The result is his uniquely integrative Grassroots Gourmet™ approach to food and health: truly delicious food that fosters well-being through an understanding of the food experience and by promoting metabolic health.

In addition to continuing his clinical work, he currently serves as affiliate faculty at The University of Montana, College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences. He teaches, lectures, speaks and cooks across the United States and all over the globe. His most recent critically acclaimed book, The Fallacy of the Calorie: Why the Modern Western Diet Is Killing Us and How to Stop It, served as the basis for a continuing education program (in conjunction with The University of Virginia) for physicians, and other health and culinary professionals in 2015. His next book, Ancient Eats (Koehler Books) is due for publication in 2016.
