  • 20s-30s: Have a wellness visit every year with a primary care provider. Get to know your family medical history. Stop smoking. Get your cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index checked. Integrate regular exercise in your life.
  • 40s-50s: Cardiovascular risk increases as estrogen levels drop. Supplements and hormones alone may not offer protection. Exercise four to five times per week for 30 to 45 minutes per session.
  • 60s+: Ask your primary care provider if you need further cardiac-specific testing.
Dr. Haythe recommends the Mediterranean diet as a simple way to help your cardiac health. Eliminate processed foods. Pay attention to changes in your body.
