Protein: A Cavewoman’s Best Friend
You've heard that protein is the key essential for losing and maintaining a healthy weight; but do you know the other important benefits you gain from adding protein into your diet?

For instance, protein changes your metabolism and strengthens your organs and lean muscle. It controls your cortisol levels (a hormone that affects fat burning) and even detoxifies your system.

Protein can also detoxify your estrogen and progesterone levels.

However, this doesn't mean unlimited amounts of bacon or beef jerky. Protein works its magic best in a clean, pastured form. This means grass-fed beef, wild caught fish, free-range poultry, etc.

What if you don't eat meat?

It's important to know that if you or someone you know doesn't eat animal products, there are other healthy ways to absorb protein.

Vegan protein options are available; it just might be a bit of a challenge. You will have to use plant-based proteins such as hemp protein, whey protein or flaxseed.

Esther Blum, MS, RD, joins Dr. Holly to share the other important benefits of protein, as well as what your best options are for adding protein into your diet.
