Dr. Matthew BudoffMatthew J. Budoff, MD, FACC, is Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine and Director of Cardiac CT at the Division of Cardiology at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. Dr. Budoff received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in cardiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Budoff is chief investigator in several active medical research trials and is a frequent lecturer on topics of cardiology at symposia, congresses and annual conferences on nearly every continent. He has authored or co-authored over 500 research papers, six books and 36 book chapters.

Dr. Budoff received the Einstein Award for Scientific Achievement from the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK, and was awarded the Top Oral Abstract at the American Heart Association’s 2009 meeting. Most recently, he was named to the U.S. News & World Report list of Top Doctors for 2011.

Between 1980 and 2004, more of half of Americans were among the billion people worldwide who had become overweight or obese. As of 2017, the United States tips the scales with the most overweight or obese people.

Our bodies were designed to eat when we are hungry, storing excess food for lean times. We don’t have lean times as a general rule in the United States. This leads to bodies storing more fat than the body can use. Some folks are genetically predisposed to weight issues. Others may have a very slow metabolism.

Many diseases are linked with diabetes: blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. Active fat cells produce a lot of the inflammation that causes these diseases.

Garlic can reduce inflammation in the body. Aged garlic extract supplements are an option for those who are concerned about smelling of garlic. Healthy individuals can take two Kyolic tablets per day. Those with chronic inflammation can take up to four tablets per day.
