Technically speaking, there aren't many items that you would consider a "must-have" for the diaper bag before taking your baby out of the house; especially if you're not planning on strolling far from home.
There are, however, some useful items to have on hand. For instance, plenty of diapers and diaper supplies (powder, rash cream), a change of clothes and, depending on their feeding schedule, bottles and formula or breast milk.
If your child has been a little fussy or showing signs of sickness, you may want to also include certain medications such as fever-reducing or teething remedies.
Alternately, there are other items that have earned their characterization as modern-day conveniences. Strollers that can do everything but fly may be a little much, especially if you're dealing with a budget. Your baby's age can also help determine the type of stroller that is appropriate.
