Do You Suffer from Digital Eye Strain?
Have you noticed that your vision is not be quite what it used to be? Are you straining to read those texts on your smartphone?

Don't blame it on aging! You may actually be suffering from digital eye strain or computer vision syndrome.

In this age of digital devices (ie. TVs, computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones) chances are that you are subjected to one or more of these devices much of your day. Statistics show that approximately 60% of adults are spending more than six hours looking at some sort of screen.

Symptoms may include:
  • Red, burning, dry, scratchy eyes
  • Blurred vision
  • Issues focusing
  • Neck, shoulder or back pain
If you have one or more of these symptoms, you may need to take a break from your digital device. The vision counsel recommends the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus on something 20 feet away. Also, be aware to blink more often and keep your eyes lubricated.

Computer glasses may also be helpful and help alleviate strain on your eyes. Here is one company where you can purchase such protective eye wear.

Dr. Ginger is back in this week's edition of "Healthy Steps with Dr. Ginger" to provide these and many more solutions to help save those peepers and avoid digital devastation to your eyes.
