When Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000, she joined the ranks of 2.1 million people who live with the disease today. Previously a marathoner and mountain climber, Dr. Wahls headed to a bedridden life due to secondary progressive MS. She decided to take her health into her own hands. In THE WAHLS PROTOCOL: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine, Dr. Wahls shares how, after using her protocol for a mere nine months, she was back on her bike, riding eighteen miles in one day. Dr. Wahls has since made it her mission to teach the public how those suffering from the autoimmune conditions, as well as chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, and even mental health problems, can become well once again.

Dr. Wahls is a clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa where she sees teaches residents and medical students in primary care and traumatic brain injury clinics. She also conducts clinical research and has over a hundred abstracts, oral presentations and publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and meetings. Dr. Wahls is in the process of conducting a clinical trials testing the efficacy of intensive, directed nutrition and neuromuscular electrical stimulation in the setting of secondary and primary progressive multiple sclerosis. She is also committed to helping the public learn about the connection between the foods we eat and the health we have or do not have. Her "Food as Medicine" lecture series has transformed the lives of thousands. Terry lives in Iowa City with her spouse, Jackie, and has two children.

Living Proof of Food as Medicine
If you're suffering from an autoimmune condition or chronic disease like obesity or diabetes, you know how challenging daily life can be.

But what if you could dramatically turn your health and life around, simply by choosing certain foods?

That's exactly what Dr. Terry Wahls did.

In 2000, the marathon-running, mountain climbing Dr. Wahls was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Within three years, this very active doctor needed a wheelchair. But she didn't give up. After studying the latest research, she embraced food as medicine. Within a year, she was able to bike 18 miles in one day, and the following year she completed a trail ride in the Canadian Rockies.

Sounds like quite the amazing transformation, don't you think?

Dr. Wahls joins Dr. Roizen to discuss her new book, The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine. The principles of the book are based on the Paleo way of eating... however, it isn't just another Paleo diet. It can transform the way you think about your health, and it can show you exactly how to get your life back.
