Why You Should Be Juicing

You may be a little late hopping on the juice bandwagon, but it’s never too late to start.

Why should you be juicing?

It’s recommended that you have five servings of veggies and at least two servings of fruit each day.

However, if you’re like most people, you’re constantly on the go, juggling multiple tasks and eating for convenience instead of eating for fuel. This means your food pyramid is compromised and you’re missing the essentials your body needs to keep you healthy.

Juicing can help bring that balance back into your life.

What’s the difference between using your juicer at home and the fresh cold-pressed juice you can buy at health food stores?

Cold-press juice involves extracting the juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and veggies. The speed used is very slow which helps preserve enzymes and nutrition. There is up to five times the amount of nutrients in cold-pressed juice.

If you’re using a juicer at home, the process is just one step. You place all your veggies and fruits into the feed tube and it is quickly grated into juice. Since the speed is fast when chopping the veggies and fruit, the heat decreases the enzymes and nutritional content.

What types of veggies and fruits should you be juicing?

If you’re juicing fruits, use in moderation. It’s no shocker that fruits are higher in sugar than veggies, typically around 6-8 ounces of fruit equals 12-14 ounces of veggies.

Naturopathic physician, Michael T. Murray, ND, shares the benefits of juicing and why you should join this health movement.
