When you think of different therapies, you may not associate that practice with the "unconventional."
But Dr. Norman Rosenthal has seen much of his success by thinking outside the box.
He was one of the first doctors to utilize light therapy and recognize its vast health benefits. Another therapy that he has studied rather extensively is using Botox to address depression. Part of that process uses the concept of facial feedback, where the theory is that if you frown, you become sadder but if you smile, you become happier.
Perhaps one of the things Dr. Rosenthal is known most for, however, is his work with Transcendental Meditation, or TM.
There are lots of different kinds of meditations; and each puts your brain through a different process. With TM, you slip into a state of mind where you're relaxed but you're also very alert at the same time. This awareness and consciousness seeps into your daily life. Even if you have a hard time with other types of meditation, TM can be a very easy process to learn and practice.
What are some other words of wisdom from Dr. Rosenthal?
Part of wisdom is seeing things again and again and recognizing a pattern. This can be applied in many types of therapies, as well as your daily life. Science is often marked by monumental discoveries, but remember... tiny moments during the day can also lead to discoveries as well.
Tune in as Dr. Rosenthal joins Andrea to discuss TM and his other "unconventional" approaches.
