Freddie the Frogcaster: Using Children’s Books to Teach about Weather

Kids just seem to remember things better if they're having fun while learning.

There aren't a lot of resources out there to help kids learn about the weather and atmosphere, though, such as why a thunderstorm, tornado or hurricane happens or what sort of weather "ingredients" are needed for a blizzard.

These are all huge weather events that affect children, all the time. They can also be quite scary if kids don't understand what's going on. Learning about weather can take the "scare" out.

This is one big reason why meteorologist, Janice Dean, started writing her Freddie the Frogcaster books.

Not only do the books go over different types of weather events, but they also teach key lessons like "it's best to be prepared at all times," and "hard work pays off"... some of the BIG lessons of life; but also more specific things like how to put together emergency preparedness kits.

Weather is the one thing that connects us all, and reading to your kids can help make a connection with them as well.
