Guest Bio: Alan Smith
Alan Smith has found greater health and happiness thanks to complementary and alternative therapies.  Today he wants to share this hope of health with the world with his first book, UnBreak Your Health™.

A few years ago his deteriorating health took him to the finest medical facility in the world, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Unfortunately, they didn't have any solutions for his digestive problems. The doctor managing his case put it simply: "There's good news and bad news. The good news is your condition isn't going to kill you. The bad news is you aren't going to like it and there is very little we can do about it."

Just a few weeks later, he discovered a new book by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., called Biology of Belief. Lipton's book led him to Rob Williams's PSYCH-K® process.  With the first signs of improvement he became so excited about complementary and alternative therapies that he began offering PSYCH-K®.

Even though his journalism degree was decades earlier, he dusted off his reporting skills and began researching and writing. As he finished one subject, he'd discover one or two more he'd never heard of until eventually UnBreak Your Health™ grew to more than 300 listings. The second edition, now How To UnBreak Your Health™, was published in June, 2010, featuring a new, user-friendly format and 339 new and updated listings in 150 different categories.

Today he enjoys the best health he's had in decades as a direct result of the complementary and alternative therapies included in his book.

Therapies to Heal Your Mind, Body & Spirit
If conventional medicine hasn't been working for you, whether it's addressing issues of your body or your mind, you might want to try a different approach.

That's exactly what Alan Smith did when you was deprived of answers to his medical conditions, even by the renowned Mayo Clinic.

After basically being told there was no help for him, no cure, he turned to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).

First enlisting experts like Bruce Lipton, Alan eventually got involved with Rob Williams's PSYCH-K® process.

Williams says that beliefs shape your thoughts and feelings, which control your actions, and in turn creates your reality. Beliefs are the key part of the story... not just your conscious beliefs, but, perhaps more importantly, your subconscious beliefs. There oftentimes can be a disagreement between these two, creating an imbalance. This imbalance can manifest as mental, emotional and physical.

PSYCH-K® is short for psychological kinesiology, which is one of the 130+ different variations of applied kinesiology, or "muscle testing," as those outside the field refer to it.

In this process, you put your arms out to the side, and the practitioner puts his or her hand on your shoulder and wrist and has you speak specific statements. As you say them, the practitioner presses down gently on your wrist, and if your conscious and subconscious mind agree, your nerves and muscles also agree and your arm stays straight. If they don't agree, there's a momentary hesitation and confusion, which in turn causes confusion within your nerves and muscles and your arm falls down.

What explains all of this?

The body has an immense amount of energy flowing through it. The conscious mind, which we often think of as our "master controller" that has all the answers, is really just a small part of the energy in your body. The subconscious, on the other hand, controls every cell in your body; how your body functions and what it does in response to different stimuli.

Muscle testing helps filter the subconscious through the very aware conscious mind.

Another therapy that Alan advocates is osteopathy.

This therapy was essentially created by a doctor who lived during the Civil War and who became disillusioned with modern medicine (or what was considered modern medicine in his day); specifically after seeing the carnage of the war and also losing his wife and a couple of kids to disease.

He decided there had to be a better way for medicine to make an impact. He started discovering ways to help the body heal itself, which then became one of his basic concepts.

Osteopathy is a specialized interest in how the skeletal system, muscles, nerves and the body as a whole work together. Those skilled in this practice can use their hands to help the body heal itself. This is called osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).

It's different than chiropractic in that a chiropractor will often force your spine back into alignment, whereas an osteopath will move and twist your body so that it turns itself into the right place and pulls itself back into alignment.

Listen in as Alan joins Andrea and Lisa to share the truly significant impact these therapies can have on your mind, body and spirit, as well as the science behind how they work.
