When you think of warm, comforting foods, you might immediately envision bowls of creamy pasta or a piping hot caramel roll right out of the bakery oven... especially during cold winter months.
Not so fast. Those aren't exactly healthy choices, are they?
That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy certain "comfort" foods of the healthy variety.
For instance, many of the quick oatmeal options today are full of sugar and other not-so-good ingredients. Instead, try some of the newer, healthier varieties that incorporate whole grains -- some of which contain protein, like quinoa. If you like just plain oats, make sure to NOT top with things like brown sugar but rather spices like cinnamon or ginger, or even a nut butter.
Soup can be another great choice for any time of day, even at breakfast. Just be sure to aim for soups that are low in sodium, and remember that many soups contain a great deal of carbohydrates.
