Guest Bio: Laszlo Bock, Author

Laszlo Bock leads Google’s people function, which includes all areas related to the attraction, development, and retention of “Googlers,” of which there are more than 50,000 in more than 70 offices worldwide. During Laszlo’s tenure, Google has been recognized over a hundred times as an exceptional employer, including being named the #1 Best Company to Work For across the United States, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom; the #1 Top Diversity Employer; the most desirable employer for undergraduates, MBAs, and college graduates in numerous countries; the best company for women in technology; and honors such as a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign.

Laszlo also worked at the General Electric Company and McKinsey & Company, serving clients in the technology, private equity, and media industries on a wide range of strategic and operational issues, including growth and turnaround strategy. Earlier, he had worked at another consulting firm, a start‑up, as an actor, and cofounded a nonprofit organization working with at ‑risk youth. He is a member of the board of trustees of Pomona College and has served as an advisor or board member of several venture capital-funded companies.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Pomona College and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Laszlo has testified before Congress on immigration reform and labor issues. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and on PBS NewsHour and the Today Show.

In 2010 he was named “Human Resources Executive of the Year” by Human Resource Executive magazine. In 2014 they named him one of the “ten most influential people impacting HR” for the decade, the only HR executive to be named to the list. He (briefly) co-held the world record for Greek Syrtaki dance along with 1,671 other Googlers. On November 3, 2012, he was ranked number one in the world in daily total kills in Assassin’s Creed III on Xbox. He owns a lot of comic books. A lot.
