Everybody has a toxic burden; one that started from the day you were born.
Unless you begin to understand that this is true, your approach to detoxification will probably be something like, "I'll detox this weekend."
That's not enough. You have to detox on a daily basis in order to keep up with the barrage of toxins invading your body and cells.
Toxins live in various tissues, including your brain, kidneys, liver, blood cells, and a large amount in your fat cells. Your liver can't break down each and every chemical that you are exposed to.
So, what can you do?
According to Dr. Stewart Lonky, there are very specific steps you can take to reduce your toxic burden.
The first step is to decrease your daily exposure load. There are certain things you can't necessarily control. For instance, you don't know if your office just shampooed the carpet, or if your friend has a plug-in air freshener, or if your local breakfast joint uses non-stick cookware. But, there are certain things you certainly can control, especially in your own home.
The second step is to prevent toxic overload by identifying products and foods that you should be avoiding. To do this, you have to learn how to read labels and know which ingredients are harmful. Many make-up and skincare products have chemicals that have been identified as dangerous.
You can also prevent the absorption of toxins by taking certain supplements that act as "binders" and help you eliminate them before they're ever absorbed. Some of those elements include pectin, charcoal, chlorella, and zeolite.
