Did you know that postpartum depression (PPD) is the most common complication of child birth?

This year, more than 1.3 million expectant and new mothers will experience this mood-lowering disorder, which is triggered by hormonal and chemical changes in the body and brain.

Baby Blues, the mild mood swings which affect 80 percent of new mothers, occur in the first weeks after birth and are considered normal and not a mood disorder. To help us recognize symptoms in yourself, your loved-ones, and your friends, there are six principal perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that you should be aware of.

  1. Postpartum Depression
  2. Postpartum Panic Disorder
  3. Postpartum Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  4. Postpartum Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  5. Postpartum Bi-Polar Disorder
  6. Postpartum Psychosis

Listen in as Shoshana Bennett, PhD, shares the warning signs of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
