Registered dietician and President of 80 Twenty Nutrition Christy Brissette reveals the health food trends that will emerge this year—and explains if they're actually healthy.

Brissette predicts the biggest changes will come to meats and proteins. She expects a rise in popularity in plant-based proteins, especially those that are quick and easy to prepare such as pea protein.

She also anticipates seeing more blended burgers in stores—patties that are mixed with mushrooms so that they use less red meat. This alternative can have fewer calories, less fat and help consumers reduce their risk of the diseases that are linked to red meat.
