Guest Bio: Jacky Hunt-Broersma
Jacky Hunt-Broersma is one of the most accomplished amputee ultramarathoners around,  endurance coach, mom, and cancer survivor.  WRAL Athlete of the year and Strong Fitness Magazine Women to Watch in 2021.   She started her run journey in 2016.  Jacky lost her leg to cancer (Ewing Sarcoma).  Jacky has built up a good portfolio of firsts for Female amputees in Trail and Ultrarunning and holds a few World records too, she is proving the naysayers wrong and building a path for other amputee runners.  Her favorite running distance is 50 miles. She’s also a mom and her daughter who is six will often run with her.  

Jacky Hunt-Broersma also set a new World Record for the First Amputee to run 100 miles on a treadmill and she ran it in under 24 hours (23hr38)

Jacky was the first amputee to take on the brutal TransRockies mountain stage race (Trail race) in Colorado.  This race covers 120 miles with over 20 000ft of climbing and running at altitude.   

Jacky Hunt-Broersma became the first Amputee to take on The Naturalist 25k trail race in Franklin, NC.  The course covers some of the most challenging terrains in the South East and has a total of 5500ft of climbing.

Within a week, Jacky Hunt-Broersma went from having a strange bump on her leg where she had surgery, to being told she had cancer, and having that leg amputated from the knee down.

This enormous life change led her to a new life of not only ultrarunning but world-record-setting ultra running.

She joins Dr. Pam to share her story, coming to terms with her new life & prosthetics, proving the naysayers wrong, and building a path for other amputee runners.
