Deborah Howell (Host): Welcome to Stoughton Health Talk. I'm Deborah Howell, and I invite you to listen. As we talk about ways to connect with our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies, and get introduced to the throat chakra, which is such an important key to speaking our truth. Joining me as Amy Crull, a Reiki master teacher, yoga teacher, and holistic health coach. Amy, always just so wonderful to spend time with you. Thanks for being here.
Amy Crull: Thank you for having me. It's great to be here.
Deborah Howell (Host): Before we dial into the throat chakra, can you give us a quick picture of the chakra system as a whole?
Amy Crull: Yes. So the chakras are dealing with our energy. It's that life force energy that's within all of us. And it's this vibrating frequency, energy. And your chakra system is like a mapping of your mental, your physical, your emotional and spiritual bodies. And it's all how they interact within the body.
Deborah Howell (Host): Got it. All right. So the throat chakra, which has been known as the key to speaking our truth. So as a podcast and radio host, I'm very interested in this chakra. This might seem obvious, but can you tell us where in the body the throat chakra is located?
Amy Crull: Yes. So, it definitely covers the throat, right. And also the trachea, the neck vertebrae, your mouth, the hypothalamus and the thyroid. So anybody with thyroid issues, this is a great chakra to tap into.
Deborah Howell (Host): All right. What other things can you tell us about this chakra?
Amy Crull: So the color, associated with this chakra is a blue, almost like a turquoise blue or a light blue. And the sense for this is actually hearing. So not only is it how we're expressing ourself, but it's also how we're hearing and how we're listening and how we're perceiving what we hear. So I always think that's very interesting. It's formed when we are that age where we're starting to say, who am I? What is my truth? And then starting to figure out how you express that truth to the world. It's really just this expression, this communication and listening as well as sound and your personal truth.
Deborah Howell (Host): So really what roughly age are we talking about?
Amy Crull: Well, I think the last one was four to seven. So, I mean, I think this happens whatever age, this kind of hits you right. Where you're starting to do this well, who am I in this world? So that I think it's different for everybody, but I think you can be from like, I don't know, let's see 10 to maybe those tween years.
Deborah Howell (Host): Yes. Okay. Very important. is there a theme associated with this chakra?
Amy Crull: Yes. So, this would be, the truth. So whatever you view as the truth, and a lot of that is how we're raised and a lot of that comes about like, well is how I'm raised. What I think is really the truth. So some people rebel against that or some people say, no, that's really what I believe. So it's just really getting into that theme of your truth and your expression of that truth.
Deborah Howell (Host): It's a deep one, isn't it?
Amy Crull: It is. Yeah, definitely. And just like the heart was that bridge from the lower chakras to the upper chakras. The throat is really that bridge between speaking from your heart and then speaking through your mind, so it's like that balance. Are you someone who is very emotional and always speak from the heart or are you someone who's so analytical that you always speak from your head? So it's that nice balance. I think between the two.
Deborah Howell (Host): Yeah. And if something is wrong in that area, say you're ill or. Lot of people have been in the last three years having trouble in that area, in their, physical bodies. what are some ways we can tap into our throat Chakra?
Amy Crull: So crystals that will help in this area are turquoise. So, anything with that color. So lapis, Aquamarine, but definitely turquoise. So even just having a necklace right there at your throat or carrying it in your pocket, huge, huge effects, very empowering. Essential oils would be frankensense, lavender, rosemary, peppermint, and eucalyptus, those are great oils to just diffuse throughout the day. When you're talking about yoga poses, there's one called the fish pose, which if you just wanna Google, it does look kind of odd, but you're laying on your back and then you just, extend your neck so that your throat is open.
And, anytime you can just put your, head back and extend those muscles in your throat so that they're stretched on the front. It's a really great way of supporting your, throat Chak. And one other yoga poses, I always call it the watching TV as a kid pose where you, kind of lean back and then you put your, your legs up in the air and you're supporting yourself on with your elbows. It's called shoulder stand, but yeah. Great pose for your throat chakra.
Deborah Howell (Host): Shoulder stand. Okay. This is really all about openness. Isn't it?
Amy Crull: It is, it really is. It's just tapping into that area. First of all, just giving it, attention, so many times you don't give it attention and where your attention goes, that's where energy flows. So that's just the first step is to just think about your throat chakra.
Deborah Howell (Host): Is there anything else you'd like to add to our conversation?
Amy Crull: Yes. So, singing is great for this, humming is great for this. You don't have to be a great singer, but you can just kind of sing along to music. It's a great way to get that energy going. Another thing is, chanting mantras and the sound associated with this is hum, H U M literally. So, even if you just hum along to some things. Drinking teas will soothe the throat. that's a great way to just help the throat chakra. And, one thing I love to do with clients is a write and release. So if you're not able to verbally express your truth, sometimes it helps to write it down.
And so if you have a particular issue or a trauma you've been through, you can write everything out about it. And then go ahead and burn that piece of paper, and then watch it be released. It's a really good thing for your throat chakra.
Deborah Howell (Host): I love that. I've also heard of standing in a river or a Creek. If you can find one and you know, just focus upstream at all the stuff coming at you, all the water and rocks and debris coming at you and say, okay, this is incoming. Take a big breath and then turn around and let it go down stream.
Amy Crull: Oh, I love that. That is wonderful.
Deborah Howell (Host): Well, Amy, we could talk for days, but how can people reach out to you?
Amy Crull: Yes, you can go to my website, which is Speroholistic.com. So S P E R O and then holistic, H O L I S T I C .com. And, when you're on that website, you can look at booking and I do remote Reiki sessions, and I also do remote health coaching sessions.
