Host: Absolutely. Wanted to kind of start off the podcast a little bit by just giving a synopsis here of what the medical spa really is. So I actually have something to read here. And this comes from our Gabrielson Clinic for Women website. It says, look and feel your best.

Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah, so I do a variety of different services in Clear Lake and in Webster City. In Clear Lake, I do chemical peels, cool sculpting, sugaring, which is a hair removal. We do lasers. They can kind of get a little bit tricky to know all the different kinds, but we do from ones that treat skin concerns from hyperpigmentations all the way to anti-aging. We do dermaplaning and then our other provider, Monica Forbes and our other provider, Jackie Doman, do injections. They do Botox. And then in Webster City, our dermatologist and I actually just got trained the other day to do more lasers in Webster City. And then Tricia, our dermatologist does botox as well. And then we do chemical peels in Webster City as well.
Host: Oh my gosh, that's a lot.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
Host: Do you have a full schedule?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah, we do. We're just starting to grow Webster City since it's kind of new. We just got our location in May, I think is when it opened. So we're hoping to grow that and let ladies in that area know that we have the service to offer to them.
Host: Right. And so not just the ladies.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
Host: Let's talk about what's available for men. What do I want to go home and tell my husband you really need to have this done?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: I would say a good service for men would be probably, maybe laser hair removal. there's certain areas like men in the back, like that in the chest. Chemical peels to help out cause men don't take care of their skin sometimes. And especially being in the fields. Like farmers around here, it is really good to rebuild those cells and also help out with hyperpigmentation. Another thing for men too is wear that sunscreen outside.
Host: Oh, for sure.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Goes both for men and women.
Host: I cannot get my husband to put a drop of sunscreen on. And I'm think it's just so easy. And you don't even wear makeup. So what is the problem?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah, yeah. I would say wear sunscreen daily no matter what. If there's cloudy days, you know it's still going to help protect your skin from those UV rays so.
Host: Do you have any suggestions for how to sneak it into their routine or, anything to let me know because I'm really kidding. He's been told so, and I know that that's a big deal, especially where we live. And he does farming part-time, so yeah, they're always out there with just a hat and it's just not good enough. You know, you got the back of the neck and then all the things.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. Moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Maybe just be like, need a little bit of hydration here, hun.
Host: Yeah. You'll look so much better. Yeah. They're just as vain as we are, right? Okay. So we've got services for men and women, and then do you guys offer products as well? Do you sell, let's visit about that a bit.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah, so we actually have a variety of products we've been using. Our dermatologist loves our ence line. That's really good for people with eczema, psoriasis, all skin concerns. It's more of a gentle line made with botanical ingredients. Has no fragrance in it. It's paraffin free. So that's a nice one.
Host: And just because it's gentle doesn't mean it's not effective, right? Because I have actually gotten into that trap before because I have sensitive skin and I'm always told, you know, you should probably use a more gentle, something more for sensitive skin. And I think, well, then it's just not going to work. You know? We get into that mindset, so, and I'm sure that's not right.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: No. Yeah, they new science behind ingredients to kind of help with sensitive skin, but still target your cells to help rebuild them for collagen or for anti-aging. Or even if you had like hyperpigmentation, sun damage, it's going to help out with that as well.
Host: So what do you tell ladies when they come in and ask about retinol or retinoids? What's the recommendation or what do you
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: I think it's good. I would say depending on how your sensitivity is, maybe start off with it once a week, work it into your regimen with a moisturizer. If you start to tolerate that really well, twice a week, then three times a week. It is a good ingredient to use every day if you can, but not everyone's skin type can take it.
Host: I Can attest to that too. So I started the prescription retinol, I think that's what it is. Or Retin A whatever. And oh my goodness, once a week to start is plenty. Just a little bit. Yeah. Especially with somebody with sensitive skin. But I can definitely see there's huge benefits to it though, because once that skin just starts to renew and, I don't know if it- yeah, yeah, yeah. It's kind of like a gentle sandpaper thing that eventually. So are there other lines that you offer? Is there makeup too or just skincare?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Just skincare. We offer a LumiereMD. That line we brought on for more rosacea patients, it has more ingredients to target the redness and kind of help calm the inflammation that rosacea patients have. We have Skin Medica that has our TNS growth factors, ingredients in it to kind of help out with anti-aging. And then we have a new one that I like. It's our Opulus retinol system. It's a ramp up system. So people like you who have never used or don't use retinol that often. It's kind of like, I wish I had a visual here, but it's like a Keurig in the pod. You take out the, each day you have a different pod, you put it in the machine. It warms up to 107 degrees. And you put it on your face and it just feels like butter. Yeah.
Host: I'm just looking at you going, wow, this, I'm in. Yeah. I totally need to check this out. Wow.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. And so it's just a good product to let people introduce their skin to retinol, cause you'll have a restored, hydrating mask in the days between help your skin calm down from either redness or if it is over exfoliating from the retinol. This will just help repair those cells and keep them hydrated.
Host: Okay. Well, you and I are going to talk after the show. I'm going to, I'm all for that. Yeah. We can meet back and then I'll, we could maybe have some progress notes or something. Okay. So you did mention that you have a couple other gals in the spa that you work with.
And one of those is Monica Forbes. And Monica, according to the website, has special interest in women's healthcare from young women through seniors skincare, including Botox and dermatological conditions.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Correct. Yep. So she works in Clarion at the family clinic here and then in Clear Lake. She does our spa services. She does from Botox, the lasers, chemical peel are her services she loves to do. And she's been doing that for a long time.
Host: Yeah, she's been with us for many, many years.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
Host: So, mm-hmm. And then Jackie Doman.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Correct. Yep. Jackie has been with our clinic for a long time, but she just started getting into the spa this last year and she does just Botox at this moment, but at some point she loved to grow and do a few more spa services.
Host: Nice. Personal story. My daughter Rihanna lives in Clear Lake and I know she came to you for a HydraFacial. And at the same time I had a HydroFacial down in Des Moines because I was doing work down there and we met back and compared notes and if I could have one every day, I would. So talk to me a little bit about the different facials that you offer and maybe what's a benefit of that over something else.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah, the HydroFacial is a good service to just exfoliate that top layer of your epidermis, fluff off any dead skin cells, especially coming from winter to summer. You know, we're wearing either sunscreen or just our skin is just dry and dull. So this is just a good way to exfoliate that top layer. Clean out our pores. It's going to do some extractions in our T-zone or wherever you have larger pores or black heads, it's going to help pull those out. And then we use hyaluronic serum at the end to help hydrate the skin and help plump your collagen. So it's a good service for anyone, again, men and women.
And it's, you can get this service done all year. There's no downtime to it. You don't have to worry about sun exposure. So it's just a great overall service. And then I like to do a little bit pampering with mine. So I always give an arm massage with it.
Host: Yeah. We both said that we both had that done and my skin never felt better.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
Host: It was just insanely clean and fresh, baby butt smooth. Yeah. Yep. It was just wonderful and I didn't want to put any makeup or anything on after that at all. I was like, oh, this is, I'm breathing through my pores. It's great.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yes. I would say it's great right before any event you have going on give your skin a nice glow. And how did you, like your makeup felt putting it on the next day?
Host: Oh, night and day.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
Host: Yeah. And so I know that there's a lot of talk about women and shaving. Your exfoliating, your face shaving is basically what it. is. Yeah. But the like
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Dermaplaning.
Host: Thank you. And I also do that and, again, same thing, the next day or after that, your makeup just applies so much more smoothly because you've gotten rid of all the gunk and-
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: rebellious hair.
Host: Right? Right? So that was the same situation. The next day I thought, oh, this, how do you keep this going?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Come every day. No, I'm just kidding. If I could get this stuff every day, it would be amazing.
Host: Oh, it would. It was lovely. So because of you your association with Gabrielson Clinic, obviously you see a lot of new moms, pregnant females, what can they do or are they restricted to some of your services?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yep. They are restricted to a most of our services, but they still could get a basic facial done. They can actually still get a HydroFacial done. They can do sugaring, which is the hair removal, and they could do the dermaplaning. But yeah, they would be restricted from our injectables, lasers, and our chemical peels.
Host: Okay. So let's talk about chemical peels for a second. I've done that before too. And the, Microdermabrasion. Yes. I did the microdermabrasion and the mild chemical peel. And again. Wonderful. So do you still do both of those?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: So we don't do the microdermabrasion anymore. We have a Viva laser that is kind of close to it. Okay. But it's a little bit different. But we wouldn't pair those with a chemical peel. With a chemical peel, we could either pair a dermaplaning prior or you could do a HydroFacial. But a chemical peel itself would be a good service by itself.
Host: So that sounds a little scary. And that's what I thought when I went into it. I thought chemical peel, it sounds like I'm gonna walk outta here with no face.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. And did you?
Host: I did. It was great. But just the word chemical is a little intimidating. So what is all in involved in that?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Chemical peels like have resterol in it. Some have lactic acid, salisolic acid, benzoin peroxide. So there' s just different ones out there. It's just trying to figure out which one would be best for your skin. I know people are afraid when they hear chemical peels, like my face is gonna be burned and fluffing off, and it's just knowing like how to take care of your skin after a chemical peel.
You just gotta be gentle with it. You have to be out of the sun for about a week, if not two weeks, just to make sure you're not causing any post hyper pigmentation.
Host: Because it's getting down to like new skin that we haven't seen before, right?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yep. Yep. It's getting, it exfoliates that top layer of the epidermis and it's just gonna help take off the old dead skin cells and yeah, rebuild new ones.
Host: Mm. We all want that. Yeah. Especially, women of my age just can't get enough of that. So what days are you guys available if somebody wanted to call and make an appointment?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. Monica is in Clear Lake on Mondays and Wednesdays. Myself, I am there in Clear Lake on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Jackie is there one Saturday a month, and then I'm in Webster City right now on Mondays.
Host: Okay. And is all that posted on our website?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: It would be on our Facebook page.
Host: Okay. Facebook. That's a good place to find out more information isn't it?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yep. And under our website page, you can just find ou r phone number. You can call the clinic, which is the 641-357-1800 number.
And then they would be able to help you determine which provider would be best to see, what service you're liking to get, and then they can help you schedule. Or if you go to our website or even on Facebook, there is a click book now. And you can schedule your own appointments.
Host: Yeah. I would say if anybody listening out there right now is interested in any of these services or more information, I think following the Facebook page is a great way to start. And that's the Gabrielson Clinic Medical Spa. That will definitely get you there.
So we didn't talk about injectables and Botox, so let's just highlight those for a second.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. Again, I'm not the provider that does it, but Botox is a good service to help with any fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead, around the crow's feet, around the eyes, or a great lip flip if you just wanna, if you're afraid to do the Juvederm, where to have your lips like super big, the lip flip is a great service to get done.
And right now, just for you to know, and everyone on the listening, we are offering a special for a lip flip till June. If anyone's interested, if you get six units, it's $60. If you get eight units, it's $75.
Host: Are they actually injecting above the lip line or so it just kind of the lip flip upward so you get more fullness.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Correct.
Host: Okay. And then they obviously do the injectables as well. Juvederm? I think there's a couple of them maybe?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yep. We just do Juvederm. Mm-hmm. There are more out there, but that's the brand we use.
Host: Okay. Yes. Nothing like getting rid of those worry lines and elevens between your eyes. And I've had Botox a couple times. Didn't have the greatest success where I went because I had like the heavy eye feeling.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Oh yeah, the drooping eye.
Host: Yeah. So I was a little hesitant after that, but I went back I mean, it doesn't take long and you do, you look like you've had a really, really long nap that you really needed. So that was nice. Do you guys do skincare consulting ahead of time? So if I wanted to come up and just say, Hey, let's just have a a conversation.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yes. Yeah. We do free consultations with any of our providers Monday through Friday, and you can just call in or schedule online and we can just take an hour just to talk about any products you're interested in, any services you're interested in and then we can figure out a game plan for you. And go from there to schedule something.
Host: Awesome. That is, I love that idea because we don't always know what we need. if we had the opportunity to just come in and say, Hey, just look me over, and what would you suggest? Yeah. I think that's worth it right there.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yes. Yes. And if you have more concerns, obviously sometimes we will recommend you to our dermatologist if it's a little bit other. Like if it is a little bit more rosacea, maybe we might suggest something for her, or if it is with certain scars or moles, will recommend you to go see a dermatologist as well.
Host: Sure. Perfect. Okay. Well let's end on a high note. Sunscreen. We cannot talk about this enough, correct? What's the recommendation?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Daily.
Host: Daily. Every day. Every day. Every day. And it's not hard. And what do you, okay, so let me just back up a second. What's your opinion as an esthetician between like somebody like me, who wears a CC cream that has an SPF of 50 in it versus just doing a sunscreen alone? Is that good enough? Do I need more?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: I would say that's good enough, cuz as long as you're putting it on in the morning, it should last you throughout the morning. Obviously we'd want you to keep adding more throughout the day, especially if you are outside and doing activities out there. But if you're inside, if you put it on once in the morning, you should be fine. But yeah, the CC cream should be good since it has the SPF 50, but if you felt like you needed a little bit more, you can always add a couple layer of a different brand on top of it. But-
Host: What's the minimum recommendation these days for an spf? Is 30 good enough? As long as we're reapplying?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: I would say 30 would be good. We typically start at 40. It's where we start with a lot of our lines are all at 40, 42. But 30 would be as long as you're putting it on and wearing it, whatever you have, I think would be beneficial for you.
Host: And let's not forget about people who are in trucks all day. Tractors. Even though the window's up, you're still getting it. I've seen a lot of men specifically who have on their left side more skin damage because they're getting those rays through the window.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yes. And it even will work on your arms too, so, don't forget about your arms, but I know a face is a good one to start.
Host: Yep. Yep. All right, well let's wrap this up, Jenna, and tell everybody again if they wanna find out how to get ahold of you for more information, what do they do?
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: They can either go to our Gabrielson Clinic Med Spa Facebook page. They can go to our website, or they can call 641-357-1800 to schedule a free consultation. Or they can click book now on one of our websites.
Host: Perfect. It's been so great having you today.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah. Thank you so much, Gina, for having me.
Host: I could just talk all day about this stuff. It's kind of a nice change from the other medical things that aren't as fun.
Jenna Krueger, Licensed Esthetician: Yeah.
