Host Bio

Dr. Robert Abel Jr. MD Dr. Abel earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in 1969, completed his ophthalmology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital and was a Cornea Fellow at the University of Florida. A board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Abel is a former Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University. He founded multiple eye banks, has taught internationally on numerous subjects and done medical mission work. Dr. Abel has done active research on corneal transplants, corneal pathology, contact lenses and drugs as they relate to the eye and, holds two patents on artificial corneas, and has received the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Senior Honor Award.

Dr. Abel is the author of the popular new book, "The Eye Care Revolution," which teaches patients how to treat and reverse common vision problems. He has formulated vitamins, been a consultant to numerous nutritional corporations and has been seen on PBS, the Discovery Channel and invited to speak at the Royal College of Physicians in London. In his spare time, he practices Tai-Chi, and studies alternative medicine systems.

Dr. Robert Abel Jr. talks about many of the important and unrecognized parts of our visual system which we so often take for granted. The show covers the usual common ocular disorders with an East/West approach to both prevention and therapy.
