There are many detox programs out there, but how do you know which ones work or which ones are all hype?

In this segment, leading detox expert, Dr. Sara, provides some clarity on the whole concept of detoxing and cleansing and allows you to give your liver a badly needed break.

Your body is overwhelmed with chemicals. You are surrounded by them. They are in the foods you eat and in the products you use on a daily basis, not to mention the toxins surrounding you in the environment. So it is essential to cleanse your body from time to time.

It is important that no matter which cleansing program you choose that you get proper nutrients. This involves eating natural, organic whole foods. This way, your body will have the energy it requires to properly cleanse.

Elimination is a key process to detoxification. You need to relieve your bowels at least three times daily during a cleansing program. Sweating and frequent urination also help relieve the system of toxins. Dr. Sara recommends that 2-4 times a year, you clean your colon during your cleansing programs.

Dr. Sara's favorite clean foods include:
  • Dark leafy greens
  • High quality proteins (wild deep water fish)
  • Fruits high in antioxidants (blueberries)
  • Vegetables
  • High fiber foods (chia seeds)
