Top Reasons to Have a Shower Filter
Sometimes there can be nothing more luxurious than a hot shower at the end of a long day.

But what dangers are you exposing yourself to if you're not using filtered water in your home?

Ron and Lisa Beres are back on Naturally Savvy to share the top reasons for using a filtration system.

First, consider this: a whopping 98 percent of U.S. municipalities treat their water supplies with chlorine, so chances are you're being affected in some way.

Why is this a problem?

Chlorine has been linked to certain cancers, including bladder, rectal and breast cancer, and can exacerbate certain pre-existing conditions like asthma and eczema.

When you bathe or shower, the chlorine in the water is being absorbed directly into your body. Remember, your skin is your largest organ, and anything you expose it to is being readily absorbed.

It's not just the chlorine you're being exposed to via the water itself, either. The chlorine also vaporizes (especially if you take very hot showers) and is released into the air you breathe.

This is why filters are so very important.

What can you do, though, if you're traveling or on the road for business? How can you reduce your chlorine exposure?

Many of the filters available today are actually portable and don't require any tools for installation. You can also use de-chlorinating bath salts or a "bath ball" if you prefer baths.

Some filters are so advanced that they also filter out THMs (trihalomethanes), which are disinfection by-products from the chlorine, and the real culprits when it comes to the cancer risk mentioned above.

What about if you like to swim?

Lisa advises to find a pool that uses salt water or a form of disinfectant other than chlorine. There are conversion kits that you can install yourself if you have a pool at your home.

Filters also help to pH balance your water, which can benefit your skin and hair.

Tune in to learn more tips from Ron and Lisa regarding water safety and how you can make your home the healthiest it can be.
