Antibiotic resistance is a naturally-occurring phenomenon that can be slowed, but not stopped.

Over time, bacteria adapt to the drugs that are designed to kill them. They change the very core of their composition to ensure survival. 

Misusing antibiotics (such as taking them when you don't need them or not finishing all of your medicine) is the single leading factor contributing to this problem.
