Healthier Snacking with Pulse Foods

From the Show: CLEAN Food Network
Summary: What are "pulse" foods and how can they be a healthy snacking alternative?
Air Date: 7/18/16
Duration: 10 Minutes
Guest Bio: Noha Waibsnaider, Founder of Peeled Snacks
Noha-WaibsnaiderIn 2004, Noha Waibsnaider founded Peeled Snacks in her tiny New York City apartment when she noticed there was something missing from the snack aisle. Store shelves were full of processed potato chips, corn syrup-filled candy, and energy bars made with too many mysterious ingredients, leaving snackers to feel the “spike, crash and burn” effect. Without finding any options both healthy and enjoyable, Noha set out to fix that problem.

Her solution? Tasty and nourishing snacks made with pure, wholesome ingredients to satisfy your cravings at anytime or anywhere. Today, Peeled Snacks has a multi-product snack line and is available nationally in Whole Foods, Starbucks, amazon.com and regional grocery stores. Noha’s vision was and is still today to make healthy snacking as tasty and close to nature as possible.
Healthier Snacking with Pulse Foods
A new snacking trend is pulse foods (peas, beans, chickpeas and lentils).

Protein found in these foods is an affordable alternative to animal-based proteins. They have a low carbon and water footprint to grow, and they're nutritious.

The U.N. declared 2016 the “Year of the Pulses” to encourage people worldwide to eat more of them for their health and the health of the planet.

And low or no added sugar is starting to catch on now that the FDA has changed its labeling guidelines.

Noha Waibsnaider, founder of Peeled Snacks, joins host Lisa Davis to share more about this new snacking trend, as well as the mission of Peeled Snacks: to help people feel good about snacking while still meeting their health goals.
