Guest Bio: Diva Nagula, DO
Dr. Diva Nagula is a board-certified osteopathic physician and has extensive knowledge and training in Integrative and Functional Medicine. Dr. Nagula is a Washington, D.C. native and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. His interest in medicine developed at an early age when he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and practice medicine.

Dr. Nagula graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at EVMS and a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Emory University.

Upon completion of his fellowship, he opened a practice in rural South Georgia. His practice grew in both size and prestige in a short time. Dr. Nagula opened the first AAAHC certified ambulatory surgical center in Georgia where he performed cutting edge interventional procedures. He oversaw all aspects of his practice while still managing to see a full case load of patients. He soon expanded into North Florida with a second practice.

After several years of fighting cancer, he remains in complete remission. At the time of his diagnosis, he developed an interest in Integrative and Functional Medicine. An approach that focuses on treating the whole patient. Traditional medicine treats patients by their symptoms. Dr. Nagula’s realized his poor lifestyle choices: extreme stress, lack of sleep, infrequent exercise, and standard American (processed) diet contributed to his diagnosis. There were no genetic links to his cancer.

Recently, Dr. Nagula completed training, under the renowned Dr. Andrew Weil, in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona. He owes his successful battle and remission to the tenets of integrative and functional medicine. He is in the best shape and best health of his life and owes it all to his positive lifestyle changes.

Dr. Nagula recently relocated to the great Washington, D.C. area to be closer to his family and friends. He is committed to his passion for healthy lifestyles. He believes most diseases that plague this country can be prevented and sometimes treated by positive health and lifestyle changes. Integrative and Functional Medicine align with his core beliefs and he looks forward to sharing his knowledge to help others.

EP 180 - Healing Cancer through Mind, Body and Spirit
A physician who was diagnosed with stage-4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2014, Dr. Diva Nagula integrated a holistic approach to his traditional treatment regimen that ultimately led him to remission.

His approach incorporated mind, body, and spirit -- which was then manifested in his new book, From Doctor to Patient: Healing Cancer through Mind, Body and Spirit.

Dr. Nagula joins Dr. Taz to share his story, why a functional approach was key to his successful remission, and who he is today versus who he was in the time leading up to his diagnosis.
