Sherry Torkos is a pharmacist, author, and health enthusiast with a passion for prevention. Torkos graduated with honors from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1992. Since that time she has been practicing holistic pharmacy in the Niagara region of Ontario. Her philosophy of practice is to integrate conventional and complementary therapies to optimize health and prevent disease.

Torkos has won several national pharmacy awards for providing excellence in patient care. As a leading health expert, she has delivered hundreds of lectures to medical professionals and the public. Torkos is frequently interviewed by radio and TV talk shows throughout North America and abroad on health matters.

She has authored 18 books and booklets, including, “The Canadian Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine,” “Saving Women’s Hearts,” and “The Glycemic Index Made Simple.”

In the gut, there are hundreds of species of bacteria; some are friendly, while others are not.

Good digestion relies on friendly gut bacteria to destroy harmful bacteria and other microorganisms. If the gut flora contains too many harmful bacteria and not enough friendly bacteria, an imbalance can occur known as dysbiosis, which has been linked to insulin resistance, weight gain, inflammation, obesity, allergies, brain fog, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
