Leigh Vinocur MD, MS

Dr. Leigh Vinocur is a board-certified emergency physician, with one of the first master’s degrees in the country in medical cannabis science and therapeutics from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. As a medical cannabis physician advisor and consultant, she is focused on medical cannabis education and management for both patients and the industry. She serves on the scientific advisory committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association, (NCIA.) And she provides patients, businesses, and organizations with the most up-to-date evidence-based strategies on medical cannabis science and therapeutics.

She is a media-savvy, experienced, national medical contributor who can translate technical and scientific information into consumer-friendly terms. And her adjunct medical broadcasting career dovetails into her passion for educating both physicians and the public on medical cannabis. Aside from regular appearances on national media outlets, such as The Today Show, Cable News Network (CNN), Headline News (HLN), the Fox News Channel (FNC), and the popular syndicated Dr. Oz Show; she is a regular contributor to the Hearst publication GreenState, where she has an “Ask Dr. Leigh” column answering their reader's cannabis-related questions.

She is also a spokesperson for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the Society of Cannabis Clinicians (SCC). She has also won numerous awards for her contributions in healthcare from organizations including but not limited to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Hal Altman MD, MS

Dr. Hal Altman is a pediatrician and former Chief Medical Officer, who has completed a Master’s of Science in Cannabis Science and Therapeutics (MCST) from the University of Maryland’s School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Altman received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. from Temple University’s School of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency and chief residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. In the spring of 2021, he became a graduate of the inaugural class of the University of Maryland’s School of Pharmacy MCST program.

Dr. Altman was a pediatric clinician in western Pennsylvania for 25 years. During that time, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics with the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and participated in clinical research studies with Dr. Jack Paradise.

The last 20 years of his career were spent in medical leadership roles. He was the Medical Director of Children’s Community Pediatrics for 5 years and then became the first CMO of ACMH Hospital in western Pennsylvania for the next 16 years. He retired in 2019 and assumed his MCST studies.

Dr. Altman currently leads the Scientific Advisory Committee for a hemp company, exploring the clinical applications of hemp and its cannabinoids. His professional interests are to explore the potential of cannabis as medicine, to provide cannabis education for fellow clinicians, and to advocate for the rescheduling of medical cannabis.

Leslie S. Matthews MD, MBA, MS

Dr. Leslie S. Matthews is a Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon who enjoyed a long and rewarding career in clinical and academic orthopedics. After over 35 years of clinical orthopedic practice in which he specialized in Sports Medicine and treatment of disorders of the knee and shoulder, Dr. Matthews continued in academic orthopedic administration until 2020.

In addition to an MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Dr Matthews holds an MBA from the Loyola University Sellinger School of Business as well as a Master’s Degree in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the Inaugural program of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Matthews’ interests in the field of medical cannabis focus on the education of health care professionals in all things cannabis-related.
