Modern Day Stress: Are You Wired, Tired or Both?
Are you tired but too wired to sleep? Do simple tasks feel overwhelming? Is it impossible for you to get through your day without coffee, cola or other stimulants?

Stress can be a permanent presence in your daily life and can remain a source of contention.

It is true that not all stress is bad and can actually be good for your health.

However, when you remain in a state of chronic stress, your body will begin to suffer.

Too often you might overlook symptoms, like being unable to sleep or to get through your day without an energy drink. However, these can be critical warning signs to which your body is trying to alert you.

When you can learn to identify stress and manage it appropriately while nourishing your body, stress no longer needs to be the enemy.

What are some ways to help identify and manage stress?

When you're stressed, your brain is signaling your adrenal glands (which are located above your kidneys) that you are feeling under pressure. This spurs adrenaline and your main stress hormone, cortisol, to pump through your body, causing your blood pressure to rise, your heart to race and an inability to calm down.

If you're already running late on a busy day and begin to notice your adrenaline is increasing, take a few deep breaths. Remind yourself that you have everything in control and that you will get through it.

Sarah Corey joins Dr. Holly to discuss why modern day stress is so prevalent in your life, why you might not even know the signs of being stressed, and simple ways you can recognize and take control of your stress.
