EP 18 - Healing Senior Depression & Becoming Socially Active Through Technology
What allows individuals to age well?

The first answers that might come to mind include eating healthy, exercising, not smoking, or getting proper sleep.

But, according to researchers such as Kerry Burnight, PhD, the number-one thing we can do to age well (physically, mentally and emotionally) is to proactively seek out and engage in deep and meaningful connections with others.

This can be difficult for older adults, particularly if they are home-bound or have lost a life-long partner.

Chronic loneliness can contribute greatly to a senior's demise. There is a 64% increase in developing dementia if you identify as feeling lonely, a 29% in coronary artery disease, and a 26% increase in death.

Technology has the ability to connect humans if used appropriately. However, Dr. Burnight believes that standard technology thus far has been harming older adults. iPads and other tablets can be confusing and present functionality challenges.

Dr. Burnight joins Dr. Bond to explain how the essential apps and services on the revolutionary grandPad eliminate the clutter, distractions, and complications of other devices. This simple tablet for seniors enables users to view family photos and videos, call loved ones, send voice emails, play classic games, and listen to their favorite tunes with the touch of a button to instantly start making and sharing memories.
