Is it ever too late to start an exercise routine? Fitness pioneer, Denise Austin, would tell you no -- you can start making changes at any age.
In this segment of Naturally Savvy, Denise provides some excellent examples of how you can start a fitness regimen at any age, and one that will stick.
You can start by finding 10 minutes a day. Wake up 10 minutes earlier than normal and take a quick walk or stretch. Eventually, that short period of time will increase and allow you to exercise for up to 30-60 minutes a day. You will hardly even notice the increase once your routine kicks in.
If you work full-time and have a family you may feel you are simply too busy to work out. But even short bursts of exercise can be beneficial. Find a quick workout that provides some motivation to get up off that couch.
You can also stay fit throughout your workday. Get up and take quick breaks from your computer screen to walk, stretch and get the blood flowing. And, there are simple exercises you can perform at your desk that will help you burn calories while you work.
Try a treadmill desk. Even walking one mile per hour over a longer period of time will burn calories and help prevent those unwanted pouches caused by sitting at a desk all day, every day.
Finally, but certainly not least important, eat a balanced diet. Moderation is always key. Incorporate an 80-20 rule, allowing yourself some treats and cheats 20% of the time.
It's simple math really. If you eat well and couple that with a regular fitness routine, you will increase your chances for a healthier, longer, happier life.
